Opportunity International Savings and Loans has presented an amount of 50,000 Cedis to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation to support their operations.
This was disclosed at the just ended 2nd Akwasidae at the Manhyia Palace on 18th February 2024, when the leadership of the financial institution joined the Asantehene to mark the occasion.
The delegation was led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Kwame Owusu Boateng who indicated that they had come first to celebrate Adae with the King, seek his blessings and thank him for his support since the establishment of the company in Ghana 20 years ago.
They had also come to officially inform Otumfuo of the 20th anniversary of the Opportunity International Savings and Loans, which started from Kumasi.
According to the CEO who spoke to Opemsuo News, the donation is in line with the company’s core values and quest to support the needy and vulnerable of which the Asantehene through his foundation has been doing over the years.
“As an institution, we focus on the deprived, the vulnerable and we have realised that since Otumfuo assumed the Golden Stool, his foundation has been supporting a lot of people particularly in the area of education.”
“If you look at the customers we have been working with, most of them are women and we know that women are more vulnerable. There are those who do not have the courage to enter the banking hall and request a loan but we are able to bring such people together and offer them soft loans even without collateral. So we thought it wise to support the King in that regard,” he emphasized.
He said the company will forever be grateful to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and traditional leaders in the Kingdom for granting them pieces of land to set up while enjoying a peaceful environment which has enhanced the operations of the institution.
“Opportunity International is now 20 years since establishment in Ghana. We started from Adehyeman Gardens here in Kumasi. So it is in order that we return to our roots as we celebrate our 20th anniversary to thank Otumfuo and his Chiefs for giving us pieces of land to set up. We have already launched the anniversary celebrations so we came to seek the King’s blessings before we continue with other activities,” he said.
The delegation included the 1st Board Chairman, Rev Dr. Kwabena Darko, Mr. Akate Asem (Board Chairman), Mr. Benjamin Kusi, Alberta Quarcoe, Hajia Azara Harun, Mrs. Joy Ocansey (all Board Members), as well as Departmental Heads and Branch Managers of the company.
