From Abuakwa, Lucy Mensah’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of determination and hard work. Lucy began selling goods from a table-top stand to provide for her family, which was a challenge due to the financial challenges she was facing as a woman.
With an initial loan of just GHS 20 from Opportunity International Savings and Loans Ltd. (Abuakwa Branch), she expanded her business to include selling bags of charcoal. As her business flourished, she continued to reinvest, ultimately growing her loan capacity to GHS 7,000 and generating substantial income.
Lucy’s success has not only transformed her life but also that of her entire family. Her two children have completed their Senior High School education, and she has supported her husband’s building project with over 1,200 concrete blocks. In a gesture of appreciation, they plan to name their new home “Opportunity House.”
