Mr. Daniel Brenya’s Journey to Sustainable Agric Success

Mr. Daniel Brenya is a 55-year-old farmer who transformed his small vegetable farm into a thriving Agric business with the help of Opportunity International Savings and Loans Ltd. Daniel’s journey is a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and access to financial support.

Born in Kumasi, Daniel started farming by cultivating cabbage on a ½ acre of land gifted by his mother. However, he lost the land to a developer and relocated to Akwadum near Koforidua in 2010. Despite these challenges, Daniel persevered and joined a vegetable farmers’ association to seek funding. After a disappointing experience with other banks, a colleague recommended Opportunity International Savings and Loans Ltd. to him. Daniel received his first loan of GHS2,000 from Koforidua Branch as a Group Agric client and later switched to become an individual loans client, which helped him expand his farm to four acres.

As demand for his produce grew, Daniel diversified his crops to include garden eggs, pepper, cucumber, and butter squash. He acquired two Honda pumping machines and a motorcycle, which improved irrigation and transportation. His farm now employs three workers, including his son, and supplies produce to customers in Accra. Daniel, however, faced a flooding disaster that destroyed his farm. By virtue of this incident, Opportunity International rescheduled his loan repayments to help him recover.

Daniel is full of appreciation to Opportunity International for their consistent support and is further seeking assistance to acquire an automatic sprinkler system to improve irrigation on his farm. Opportunity International’s support has enabled him to build a sustainable Agric business, create employment, and improve his community’s food security.
